I do medical transcription and am keyboarding 8+ hours a day. I was unhappy with my previous keyboard because the clacking keys were so loud, interfering with my ability to hear the dictation. This Perixx keyboard has a good touch and the sound is quieter. I am taking time to write this review to let others know that this is a very good, quality ergonomic keyboard.

Last week, I wrote this review -- "Five months later, I still like the Perixx Periboard 512 Ergonomic Split Keyboard. But it has issues...Received bacl in May 2018, it has developed two "sticky" keys -- "A" and "Ctrl" keys. They actually feel like they "catch." The "a" key usually has to be tapped again and the "ctrl" key is particularly balky, takes a firmer touch to use it. Ive asked Perixx for a replacement under their 1 year warranty, I hope they come through. One more thing, I have not gotten used to using the dual space bars, I guess its because I learned to "type" on a Underwood manual typewriter; you use the right thumb to space, always..." Over the weekend, Perixx replied to my request for help and has agreed to send a replacement keyboard under the terms of their one year warranty. Cannot ask for better support than that! Thank you!

What is one of the most annoying things about Apple based keyboards? Well, that the Command Key, Control Key, or both are not found on both sides. Such makes GNU/Emacs difficult to use. However, with this split keyboard -- the 512. The long awaited ability to use either the right hand or the left for both the control key and the command key is solved. And, all this in a split keyboard design. Now, some may not like split keyboards, then, this is keyboard is not for such people. Instead, this keyboard is for us tall folk for whom small dinky keyboards are less than helpful. The key pressure is quite nice. It would be better, as other reviewers have noted, if they keyboard had the ability to front-prop like the Microsoft Natural 4000. Ive used both, for Windows, I think that the 4000 is slightly better given no one really uses the Command Key. For the Mac, being able to hit the command and control keys with the opposite hand than the other key in the cord command sequence makes it much more enjoyable to do work. For those of us who were taught to type in ways to avoid RSI, we bristle at Apples ergonomics of eliminating the great GNU/Emacs from easy use. With this keyboard, you will not just be stuck in vi land. (If you like vi better than GNU/Emacs, that is OK, Im not hater.) So, is this keyboard for you. I dont know. If you shell out the cash and someone sends it to your door, then, yes. It is for you.

I bought this because I have tendonitis in both of my wrists. Being a college student, I have to type A LOT. So instead of downing ibuprofen every few hours every day, I decided to get one of these keyboards. The difference is amazing! My wrists no longer hurt after only 10 minutes of typing! I can type for over an hour now without having to stop (still need to do stretches every so often) and rest for hours. The transition from a standard keyboard to an ergonomic is very easy. In fact, going back to a standard feels a bit strange! I recommend this to anyone with arm and/or wrist problems such as tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Great keyboard. This is my second one. My previous one lasted over four years. Im a medical transcriptionist and this keyboard takes a pounding for several hours five days a week. The letters dont wear off unlike other keyboards Ive used. The keys have a nice clicky sound that I like. The only reason I replaced my old one was that some of the keys had started to stick and caused my productivity to slow down. (In this business, productivity is EVERYTHING!) I would highly recommend this keyboard to anyone.

I was hoping to replace my broken Microsoft Sculpt keyboard with this. However I tried this keyboard for 10 minutes and decided that its not for me. First issue - it doesnt have the reverse slope (i.e., elevated palm rest) thats essential for preventing carpel tunnel (you can see from one of the product photos - the users wrists are still bent upward. This is main cause of wrist injuries). 2nd issue - the keys have too much travel and are somewhat loud. 3rd - despite its size the keys are spaced closer than on some laptops, due to gap between keyboard sections taking up space. It is very uncomfortably typing on this, particularly for someone used to the more gracious key layout of the MS keyboard. Despite the shortcomings this keyboard can still be a good value as a starter ergo keyboard. Having the full key set plus multimedia control is also a plus.

Right space bar would catch and not spring back up. Thought it would get better as it got used more but that did not happen. Took a closer look at it and a simple fix in the design would of made the difference. Why wasnt fixed before it was put on the market as the company is aware of it. Contacted company and was offered a coupon for the next updated model coming out later in the year that is suppose to fix the problem. Ok, so what do I do in the meantime? Once you have an ergonomic keyboard, its hard to go back to the old kind and yet a stuck key is a problem. Having a company give me a solution months in the future doesnt fix the problem now. Did make an acceptable fix myself but I shouldnt have to be doing that.

have used MS Elite keyboards for years and years. Then they went away...and along came the MS4000 series. Im sorry - but having the MS4000 on your desk is like parking a aircraft carrier at a 7-11. And - the keys were spread out just a bit too far. So far, Im quite pleased with this Perixx 512. After using the MS4000 - at first it felt the keys were too close or too small. But, i dont think that is really the case. All-in-all, it works fine, hope it lasts a long time....and b-bye MS4000. UPDATE: 3/11/2018 Absolutely no regrets with this keyboard. I have room on my desk again for something other than a keyboard - and all in all it is comfortable to use daily for hours on end. Perixx got a new customer! (Just please dont pull a Microsoft and improve it beyond use!) UPDATE 2: So much for any enduring quality. The left shift key sticks more often than not. If youre just typing along - its quickly noticeable. But! if your browser is open - the stuck shift key can definitely screw things up. With Firefox - it disables any scroll function....then when you try to restart FF, it wants to do safe mode or refresh. A major PIA to have to reset all the options in the browser. Hence - this keyboard loses 3 stars. I dont believe the new ones are worth fifty bucks being it seems a new one is required every year. UPDATE 3: I am now on medication from using this keyboard. The issue is simple anger. That shift key issue has brought my fist down on it more than once now...and i am within a hair of snapping the whole thing smack in half. Ill put it this way: the keys are the critical component of this manufactured device, and if the manufacturer cant get the keys done right - then they are selling junk knowingly to snag money from hapless victims. Its down to 1 star. FINAL update: In a fit of "Ill get you and your little doggie, too!"....I popped off the Shift and Spacebar keys - and oiled the contact surfaces with some very fine oil I use to lubricate model trains. I wiped it all down so that the oil was oozing anywhere - put it back together - and none of the keys stick anymore. hooray!! My blood pressure probably dropped 20 points in one day!!!

Im used to using the Microsoft 4000 keyboard and I spilled coffee all over it so I needed a new one. I bought this one just to change it up and because it had excellent reviews. Its perfectly fine, but as someone who wanted a VERY ergonomic keyboard, this one is definitely a downgrade. "Wrist support" is advertised but be advised that your wrists will hang downward from your hands, cramping them at an angle. No exaggeration, I can feel my old carpal tunnel issues setting in after only about 15 minutes of use. I absolutely love the tactile feel of the keys and the quieter sound compared to the other keyboard mentioned, but unfortunately ergonomics is the top priority for me and this one comes out behind. If they would sell an attachment to raise the wrist area then Id buy it and continue using this one, but unfortunately Im going to have to return it and buy another Microsoft. The build quality of this one also seems great. Another con, though, is the arrow keys. Why are they arranged in a square instead of the same way as the arrow keys on every other keyboard in existence? Huge design flaw. Anyway, those are some thoughts, its a decent keyboard, not a waste of money, and usable, but scores more poorly on ergonomics than I was hoping.

The keyboard is great the board is set with just the right slant for natural resting of your hands, the delete and number buttons have plenty of room. I love this keyboard. I do want to mention this is a bit bigger keyboard than the straight ones and you might need more room if you have a tiny, tiny desk but it fits perfect if you have the pullout shelf for keyboards with the mouse on there too. One of its most desirable qualities is the keystrokes are not loud and there is really good bounce back when you type. Great and the price is really great for what you get in this keyboard.
