Intel NUC 7 Mainstream Kit (NUC7i3BNH) - Core i3, Tall, Add't Components Needed

I think the price to performance on this box is excellent. I run Ubuntu on it and run my wifi and camera system on it. This is the 2nd one that I own. It takes up such a little footprint.

I really like the machine. Its small and quiet. I have it mounted behind the screen and its on 24/7. No problems after installing the memory and hard drive. Bought a windows 10 license and all is good. It runs all the normall games fast and smooth. So for a simple and small machine, this is good and I would recommend it for this case.

Easy setup! Hardware (16G DDR4 and 500G Samsung M.2) and Ubuntu 16.04 OS were installed and up & running in under 15 minutes. Zero problems. Perfect for my intended use as a web server device. Will run headless most of the time, so I dont need much in the way of graphics - an area that Intel is notoriously poor in supporting. Unfortunately, open source drivers (Linux, Android) contributed by Intel are often buggy and lack support for basic graphics features. It could do so much more. Bottom line, this NUC is great in specific applications, but understand where Intel limits its functionality.

Have one of these running Ubuntu 16.04 and one as an ESXi server. For the server, I could use a bit more processing speed but overall this a great product. Have two i5 versions at work and to run Win 7 you have to use Intels tool to make an already created Win 7 USB have USB 3.0 drivers but that tool is easy if you find the newest one.

This is a great little computer. Being used as Plex server/HTPC and it has dealt with anything that I have thrown at it. I have an SSD in it and a USB 3.0 attached with media.

Intel NUCs are nice. I have become a really big fan of the NUC, and I buy them / assemble them for customers frequently.

With both m.sata and room for a 2.5" drive, you can create a pretty hefty server. Though this is only an i3 CPU. It is perfect for my simulation lab running CenOS. Its easy to exchange drives to get a new server to boot.

I bought this to replace a 2009 iMac I was using as a Web server. I use this as a Web server, a Minecraft server, a samba file server, and for media consumption. I was considering the i5 model but didn’t want to spend $150 more in addition to ram and a keyboard. With that in mind, I can tell you this mini pc is incredible even with an i3. I bought 8 gig (4x2) DDR4 Crucial ram sticks and the Logitech k400 keyboard. I had a spare 256 Crucial SSD which I also installed. This thing is really small, it’s amazing how much computer can be packed in such a small package. It’s just a bit bigger than a wallet. Because it’s so small, it’s easy to move around, for example, going from an office to a living room setup. I installed Ubuntu Mate and It handles my LAMP stack with no problem. I also have a Minecraft server that runs 24/7. I did not see official documentation for running Ubuntu Mate specifically so I had planned to install Linux Mint if I had issues. Fortunately, I’ve had no issues running the OS. All the hardware works. Sound, wifi, Bluetooth, SD card, etc. I was also pleasantly surprised to find this thing had a built-in mic which I didn’t know prior to purchasing. Note that the first thing I did after taking the NUC out the box and setting it up was to flash the latest bios. I did not try installing Windows, but it’s well known these NUCs run Windows pretty good so if you plan to put Windows on, you shouldn’t have issues. For giggles, I even setup a virtual machine running windows to see how well this model would perform. The VM ran pretty much like on my i7 gaming rig. This is the first mini PC I ever bought and I’m quite pleased with it.
