A surpassingly good "kit" lens, easily worth more than the asking price. This is a compact, wide-ratio zoom lens that fits and balances well on the Nikon DX bodies. The viewing angle is roughly equivalent to a 28-200 lens on a full-scale camera, but smaller, lighter, and less expensive. The optical performance is highly respectable on a 24 megapixel body, with no significant demerits given. The Achilles heel is of course that this is an f/3.5-5.6 lens, so its forte is not low-light shooting or soft-bokeh portrait work. But if you are seeking a Swiss Army knife of a lens -- a "does most things well" lens, this is an excellent option.

Im quite satisfied with this lens, as it offers more reach than the 18-55mm kit lens that comes with some Nikon cameras. It is light in weight, and works well for video as well as stills. A useful all-around lens, but too short for sports and most nature photography that requires greater telephoto length.
