The lens feels good, looks good, and photos taken with it have that distinctive Fuji look... until you zoom in. This is a good starter lens -- much better in quality, I think, than the kit lens that comes with an entry-level Canon DSLR. Build quality is fantastic, and the image quality is at least on par with other kit lenses if not better. The lower f-stops relative to other kit lenses is one of its hallmark advantages. However, the wider apertures are also very fuzzy on my copy. Its only once you stop down to about 5.6 that you get a sharp image. For comparable quality to other Fuji lenses, youll need to go to f8 or f11. For my casual landscape photography, that will work for now. But indoor family snapshots are better left to another lens. I tend to leave the 35mm f2 on the camera and only drag out this kit lens when I really need different focal lengths.

Returned it. A very good lens, but decided to go with a wide angle prime lens and trade off some flexibility for slightly better picture quality.
