What I love about this lens is its ability to to pack a good portion of a view cameras ability into a hand-holdable package. You can tilt the focal plane to nearly perpendicular to the film plane, shift the horizon all the way to the lower edge of the frame while maintaining straight verticals, and change the orientation of tilt to shift! If you get why those are great things, you need this lens.

I have just come back from a vacation in Europe. I used this lens exclusively. The pictures are the best I have ever taken. The sharpness, the colors and the effects (miniature effect and perspective correction) were simply amazing. I think this is more than just a specialized lens. Anyone who can afford it should go for it.

Still getting to know the lens. The more you use it the more you learn how to use it. But its built like a tank, and Im actually stunned at how sharp the images are. Really didnt expect it to match some of my other primes, but it does. Much like using a prime lens over a zoom and it causing you to slow down an think more about your photographs - this thing takes that to an entire new level, and in the end has you really appreciating the effort you put into a shot. I find that if you want to slow down, you can use this lens for a lot more purposes that most people do. Manual focus is all yo have to know, then you can decide if it would keep you from taking the shots you want.

Its hard to overstate what an incredible lens this is. Super sharp, precision focusing, perspective correction and less vignetting than I would have expected at 2/3 to 3/4 tilt. Ive got some great lenses but this is the only canon that approaches my Zeiss 50mm. If you have the need go for it. You wont regret it.

I own most of Canons best lens, However, the tilt shift lens is the sharpest, has excellent color reproduction, and enables incredible depth of field adjustments as well as perspective corrections It is the best lens in my collection and seems to be staying on the camera most days. It is excellent for architectural and landscape photography and I highly recommend it. Yes, it is expensive, but worth every penny.
